This was built in 743 by the Emperor Shomu as the center of all provincial temples established throughout Japan. The
Daibutsuden, or "Great Hall of Buddha", is 48.74 meters tall, and inside is found a 15 meters sitting Buddha, colloqially
known as "Daibutsusan".
